there are a few things to understand, that our graduation policy is aligned with the university of california requirements. and they require that students pass all courses with "c" or better. our requirements are that they pass with "d" or better. along with a-g, we are required for graduation requirements such as p.e. and our own requirements of college and career and health courses. when you look at students in high school you don't progress with age but by credits. no matter your age, you have to obtain credits. you don't become a 10th grader until you have 55 credits. and you don't graduate until you obtain 230. you can have credits but if they are not in a class with graduation requirements. you still won't graduate. if if you are missing what we call benchmark classes. core classes that are required for graduation. such as four years of english and two of math and sciences, etc., you will not graduate. so that context is important in terms of looking at our students and where they are towards graduation. our first group of students are students on track. they are a current group of juni

a lot of the states that were spare, that were not hard hit, or some as far away as california, they have pledged to start getting equipment, cruise, etc. come into new jersey -- crews, etc., into new jersey. we were able to get c-17's, c- 130's, military transport planes potentially to move assets, personnel, to speed up the process of getting power up and running as soon as possible. our first priority is water filtration plants and some other critical infrastructure. for that, we have emergency generators. we have a navy ship that has helicopters that can move assets around the state as well. we are going to be working with local officials to identify those critical infrastructure and how we can get what is needed as quickly as possible. a couple of other things we are concerned about, as power starts coming back on, we want to make sure people can also get to work. a lot folks in jersey work in new york come in the city, and in other places where transportation may be hobbled. one of the things i mentioned is the possibility of us using federal assets, and military assets as well

we are program at the university of california berkeley as a graduate program that does reporting, but working with different organizations. we don't have an initiative per se. there are organizations that are doing incredible work with citizens. the guardian u.k. is the best example of a large news organization that works with citizens on huge scale. one thing they did in the last couple years was to pull public records about the way their politicians were spending money. they created kind of a forum. citizens volunteered to go through millions of documents and they competed, it was amazingly successful. don't know how many people participated but it was a lot. the guardian is very innovative and probably less squeamish at trying to find ways to engage citizens. i will save for us we don't get a lot of tips, but we never -- don't know of journalists are experienced but never ignore. i don't know how crazy it seems, how nonsensical it seems, how far fetched about aliens, we follow up on every single tip and you will be surprised how many stories actually we get out of those tips, havin

under the speaker's announced policy of january 5, 2011, the chair recognizes the gentleman from california, mr. hunter, for 30 minutes. mr. hunter: thank you, mr. speaker. it's my honor to come before you and speak about a true son of america who lost his battle with cancer six days ago on november 22. here's an article here from the local paper in san diego talking about dan mckennon and it says navy pilot, radio and airline executive, appointed to two federal boards and son of san diego congressman. those are a lot of things but dan was so much more than all of those even put together. first, his father was a democrat congressman from san diego here in the 1950's. probably stood at this table like i am speaking now. dan was a page when we still had pages in the house in the 1950's during the truman administration as well. he had a great respect and love for this country and he had a great respect and love for this body and the institution. he has some great claims to fame. one of those is this -- as a young man, dan served in the navy as a helicopter pilot and he's credited with 62 saves
